Five Flavor Cake

5 flavor cake

This is a cake I have been making for years.  It is a favorite of most of my family and friends.  I usually make it in a bundt pan, but have even used it a couple of times to make a wedding cake and iced it with rum frosting.  It is a good tasting, rich, dense pound cake that uses 5 different flavorings.  I usually serve it without a glaze, but every once in a while will glaze it, and if I want it extra special, I will sprinkle a little coconut on top of the warm glaze.

Cake ingredients

1 1/2 cups of butter

3 cups of sugar

5 eggs, beaten

3 cups flour

1/2 tsp. baking powder

1 cup milk

1 tsp. Coconut extract

1 tsp. Rum extract

1 tsp. Lemon extract

1 tsp. Almond extract

1 tsp. Vanilla

Preheat oven to 325 degrees.  Cream butter and sugar till creamy.  Add beaten eggs.  Combine milk with flavorings.  Sift flour and baking powder and then add alternately with milk to creamed mixture.  Grease a 10 inch bundt pan and spoon batter into the pan.  Bake for 1 1/2 – 1 3/4 hrs.  Cool in pan for about 10 min.  Turn pan over onto rack and lift pan off of cake.  Allow to cool to room temperature. Serve cake with glaze or without glaze.  If you choose, sprinkle with coconut.


1/2 cup sugar

1/4 cup water

1/2 tsp. each of the following: almond, rum, coconut, lemon and vanilla

Combine ingredients in saucepan.  Bring to boil.  Reduce heat and simmer for 3-4 min. Spoon glaze over cake while warm.
